Sydney International Airport
Sydney's international airport can accommodate and efficiently handle large numbers of delegates over short periods of time. During the 2000 Olympic and Paralympic Games, 150,000 passengers departed Sydney on the airport?s busiest day and more than 900 aircraft movements were involved.
Sydney Airport has maintained its status as one of the world?s best airports by being ranked 10th in the latest survey of international airports (Skytrax World Airport Awards, 2005 [World's largest independent airport passenger survey]).
Sydney's city centre is only 8 kilometres/5 miles from the airport, making it one of the closest airports to the city compared to other international and Australian cities (see below table). This means that travel time for delegates is kept to a minimum, as is the cost of transferring delegates from the airport to hotels.
The cost of a taxi fare is at approximately $25 AUD. Buses depart the airport every 15 minutes en route to various city hotels and cost approximately $9 AUD per person. Delegates can also take a direct rail link from the airport to the city centre in 13 minutes.
